Gene Hubert Memorial Dance
Saturday, April 8 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm
On April 8 at the Guilford Grange at Greensboro dancers from all around will come together for the annual Gene Hubert Memorial Dance. To help us celebrate this icon of contra dance who wrote so many of the amazing and fun dances that are done at contra venues everywhere we have two of the finest musicians around: Roger Gold and David DiGiuseppe. Joining them to choose and call classic Gene Hubert dances will be many of your regional favorite callers.
Masterful guitarist, Roger Gold, of the bands, Elftones, Steamshovel and Land of Sky injects amazing intricacy and energy into the bass, melody and chords of the many styles of music in which he is fluent.
David DiGiuseppe is the master of the accordian, having written music books on the subject, taught workshops and played in multiple bands including Footloose and Footloose Trio. From subtle and quiet to high energy with lightening fast arpeggios, this extrordinary musician takes musicianship to new heights.
Together, the synergy created by these two expressive artists will give us a thrill ride we will enjoy all evening! That combined with a conucopia of Gene Hubert dances called by some of our favorite callers from the area will make for an unforgettable dance evening you’ll want to share with friends.
A NOTE ABOUT PARKING
Because the school is under construction we suggest some people park on the curb along Lea Ray Drive. Leaving the Grange, turn right on Lindley Road then immediate left on Lea Ray, a residential street. Please do not block driveways or fire hydrants, etc. No parking at the nearby church please.
– No partner necessary because you will dance with everyone in the room. 🙂
– If you’re new, you’ll probably have more fun if you attend the short lesson at 7:30 just before the dance.
– Bring clean, soft soled shoes to change into to protect the floor and make dancing easier
– Dancing starts at 8 and runs until 10:30 with a short break in the middle.
– Bring friends whenever you can for more fun and for growing the dance.
– Everyone makes mistakes but nobody cares so have fun!
Remember to treat beginning dancers with care and respect and help them have a good time.
