Boston’s eclectic and groovy contra band Chimney Swift and the mellifluous, electrifying caller Emily Rainbowface Abel are going on tour together for eight crazy nights. We have the pleasure of welcoming them to our dance in Clemmons.

Greensboro – SPECIAL! Gene Hubert Dance – Deep Valley Drifters, multiple callers

On Saturday, April 21 at the Guilford Grange in Greensboro dancers from all around will come together for the annual Gene Hubert Memorial Dance. To help us celebrate this icon of contra dance who wrote so many of the amazing and fun dances that are done at contra venues everywhere we have two great musicians providing the energetic music for the evening – Maria Faichild and Ted Ehrhard – known as “The Deep Valley Drifters”!

They will be joined by Dean Herington.

The conucopia of Gene Hubert dances will be called by some of our favorite callers from the area and will make this an unforgettable dance evening you’ll want to share with friends. People will come from all around for this special annual event and you’re invited to join us!

Salem College – Windmill – Stephanie Marie calling

Yes! Sunday, April 8 at Salem College from 6 pm – 9 pm we’ll get some high energy dancing in as Windmill takes the  stage!

Things get started at 5:30 with fellowship and a free lesson for new  people to get oriented, then dances will be taught and walked through before they are called while the band plays.  No one knows what the dances will be ahead of time, not even the band! We all just follow the instructions of the caller as they are presented. Its always fun and exciting to see what we will be doing!

The band:
WINDMILL — Laurie Fisher on keyboards, Steve Trisman on fiddle.  A combination of rhythm/acoustics/energy to keep you and many friends moving  to the music!

Laurie Fisher is a popular musician, dance caller and music teach
er. She also plays in BareKnuckle Quartet and Boom Chuck and various other bands.

Steve Trisman is also in Boys of Buncombe, One Leg Up, Bayou Diesel, Jupiter Coyote and many others. Trisman, while great with the electric sound, can make his acoustic fiddle sing that contra dance music!

Stephanie loves contra dancing and calling for contra dances.  She will be teaching and calling her best dances for us and making sure we all have a great time dancing!

Salem College – The Ones Improper – Emily Abel calling

Sunday, March 4 at Salem College

The Ones Improper” fill the stage to overflowing and fill the room with some of your favorite tunes, weaving a tapestry of rhythms and textures with their multiple instruments and tunes of varying moods. Expect to hear a few new dance sets and see the players shift from one instrument to another during the evening!

On this night, Salem College alumna, Emily Abel, calls select dances from her library of dance cards. This former Salem student danced every time there was a Fiddle and Bow sponsored dance in the area, then danced at regional dances before taking up the art of calling dances. Now she calls in many states and cities. Expect laughter and fun for the evening from her and the friendly people you dance with in the room!

We’ll thrill to the sounds of the well known regional band, Reel Shady as they provide their own energetic interpretation of Scottish, Celtic and traditional tunes! Reel Shady has been providing listeners with this finely detailed, tight sound at venues in the area’s venues for many years, adding fresh new interpretations at each dance! They blend their many talents, experience and instruments in a way that makes dancing to the music easy and fun.

Bree Kalb is a warm and gracious caller from the Triangle who will guide us through the dances of the evening.

Ryan McKasson of the nationally known contra band, “Synchopaths” joins us as a special guest all the way from California to thrill us with his fiddle playing.

George Paul, the amazing keyboardist who enjoys accompanying melody players everywhere, will be playing many styles during the evening as he joins Ryan in this rare collaboration. Its always cool to see what improvisations they come up with during the dance!

Nick Boulet teaches and calls the dances and livens up the evening with his good nature and humor!  Join him for an enjoyable evening of community dancing.

New Hope Fall Festival with Contra Dance – The Ones Improper with Nick Boulet

We are introducing contra dance to new people whenever we can so won’t you join us?

The Ones Improper bring the music while Allen Berryhill and Nick Boulet get people oriented on the dance floor.

You can help by coming out to this FREE event and dance with some new folks from all around. Nice wood floor, live music by The Ones Improper with Nick Boulet calling.  Some of these folks have been introduced to community dancing at another event held there earlier in the year. Now here is our chance to let them experience more dancing – contra style!

Beverages and snacks are FREE!  Food will be available to purchase.
