Larry and Audrey are a Boston based traditional duo playing for contra dances and concerts.

Guitar and banjo player Larry Unger and fiddler Audrey Knuth are a Boston based traditional duo who play exhilarating tunes with driving rhythms. Their concerts feature American and Celtic tunes with elements of other traditions including swing and blues. They also draw from Larry’s catalog of original fiddle tunes, which have been featured in several of Ken Burns’ documentaries. Salem College – The McKenzie Trio with Caller Nick Boulet

We welcome The McKenzies from Lynchburg, VA as they thrill us with their tunes and Nick Boulet calls dances for the evening!

This very active band brings you their unique blend of contemporary and original folk, traditional music of southern Appalachia and the British Isles. They are a joy to listen to and dance to and like opportunities to share their love of this kind of music through concerts, dances and teaching.

Marcia plays the mandolin, guitar and clawhammer banjo. Over the years, she has added rhythm piano, bodhran (a hand drum), concertina, and various whistles.

Woody is accomplished on guitar, tenor banjo, and concertina, but his greatest love is the fiddle.

Sample their music on their Youtube channel at:  www.youtube.com/user/WoodyandMarcia

Salem College, Gretchen Caverly, Larry Unger, Caller Bree Kalb

What an incredible dance evening! We are pleased to have Larry Unger and Gretchen Caverly for our musical entertainment!

Larry Unger has been a full-time musician since 1984 and has presented a diverse range of musical performances across the United States, Europe, and Scandinavia. Titled “master guitarist” by Dirty Linen, Unger has played with many top contra dance bands and has accompanied such fiddlers as Judy Hyman, Matt Glaser, and Lissa Schneckenburger. Larry’s original waltzes and fiddle tunes have been played and recorded by musicians around the world and can also be heard in the Ken Burns documentary, Our National Parks. Initially studying blues guitar with Etta Baker and John Jackson and later taking up the banjo and bass, Unger has become one of the most sought-after rhythm players in the country. He has a great breadth of understanding of traditional music to complement his considerable technical proficiency and enjoys telling stories about the origins of his music and the people who taught him.

Gretchen Caverly’s fiddle playing will carry you away with her precise yet freely interpreted melodies.

Our Caller will be Bree Kalb.
