General Safety

  • Follow directions from callers, organizers, and event volunteers.
  • Stay home when sick and avoid scented products, as some members of our community have allergies.
  • Maintain awareness of other dancers and avoid hazardous clothing, jewelry, footwear, or movements.
  • Speak up when something feels unsafe or uncomfortable and seek assistance from a Board Member when needed.

Respect & Consent

  • Treat others with respect, kindness, and consideration. Respect another person’s right to say “No, thank you” to a dance, flourish, touch, or other interaction.
  • Accept a refusal gracefully.
  • Communicate with dance partners about comfort, ability, and preferences.
  • Avoid forceful leading, squeezing hands, tweaking thumbs, or dancing outside one’s space. Be mindful that injuries and disabilities may not always be visible.

Physical Safety on the Dance Floor

  • Respect personal boundaries and refrain from unwanted verbal, physical, or sexual behavior.
  • Ask before initiating flourishes, dips, or other movements that require additional consent.
  • Never perform aerials or lifts.
  • Use dips cautiously — never with inexperienced dancers, and only with the consent of both partner and neighbor.
  • Avoid flourishes with new dancers and during walk-throughs.
This Code of Conduct applies to all Fiddle and Bow Country Dancers events, including local dances and Feet Retreat.
Violations may be reported to any Board Member and will be addressed in accordance with our Safety Policy.
