Salem College, Gretchen Caverly, Larry Unger, Caller Bree Kalb

What an incredible dance evening! We are pleased to have Larry Unger and Gretchen Caverly for our musical entertainment!

Larry Unger has been a full-time musician since 1984 and has presented a diverse range of musical performances across the United States, Europe, and Scandinavia. Titled “master guitarist” by Dirty Linen, Unger has played with many top contra dance bands and has accompanied such fiddlers as Judy Hyman, Matt Glaser, and Lissa Schneckenburger. Larry’s original waltzes and fiddle tunes have been played and recorded by musicians around the world and can also be heard in the Ken Burns documentary, Our National Parks. Initially studying blues guitar with Etta Baker and John Jackson and later taking up the banjo and bass, Unger has become one of the most sought-after rhythm players in the country. He has a great breadth of understanding of traditional music to complement his considerable technical proficiency and enjoys telling stories about the origins of his music and the people who taught him.

Gretchen Caverly’s fiddle playing will carry you away with her precise yet freely interpreted melodies.

Our Caller will be Bree Kalb.

Greensboro Grange -Ted Ehrhard and Maria Fairchild, Caller Dean Snipes

Our 3rd Saturday dance at the Greensboro Grange always draws a lot of people from the region plus quite a few new people.  Come out and meet the new people, help them get started on the right foot, so to speak, and have a good time!  Its always great to see those who aren’t able to come to the Winston-Salem area dances.

On Saturday, August 18th, at The Guilford Grange in Greensboro, we once again welcome the multi-talented Maria Fairchild who gets the piano rockin’ and also plays banjo and guitar and Ted Ehrhard who pulls out multiple melodies on fiddle, making it another dancer pleasing evening to enjoy with your friends at the Grange dance. The only other thing needed to make it a great evening is you!

Caller will be Dean Snipes with some mighty fine dances.

Clemmons – The Stuff, caller Nick Boulet

Sunday early evening dances are transitioning to mostly 2nd Sundays beginning in August.  This is the first of those so go ahead and mark it on your calendar.  The lesson for new people is at 5:30 pm and dancing starts at 6 and you can dance as much as you ‘d like until pm.  We have a short break in the middle with a few waltzes you can try and to close out each evening we have a final waltz.

“The Stuff” is back to bring us more great dancing music. Great stuff! Gretchen Caverly’s fiddle playing will carry you away with her precise yet freely interpreted melodies. Nic Coker works the guitar, supporting the melody with his creative and fluid rhythm and bass lines. In other words – music that is great fun to dance to!

This night our own Nick Boulet calls dances for the new dancer as well as for the more experienced ones. His relaxed, fun way of calling is infectious making the evening very fun.
